I was born in 1952 in Geneva, Switzerland, of a Scottish mother and a Swiss father.I lived in Lebanon, Singapore, Algeria and Spain before returning to Geneva to art college where I studied mainly jewellery.
However, I now concentrate entirely on painting which I exhibit mainly in London with Anna- Mei Chadwick, and at the Medici Gallery in Grafton Street, at the Broughton Gallery near Edinburgh and at various galleries in Canada.
I was a founder member of the Society of Limners in 1986, and in the same year exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. I was elected to the Society of Women Artists in 1987.
I have illustrated three children's books:
"The Last Slice of Rainbow" by Joan Aiken
(Jonathan Cape in 1985, and Puffin in 1988.)
"Hush, Little Baby", a collection of songs and nursery rhymes
(Barefoot Books 1997 in the U.K., and in the USA as "Rock-a-Bye Baby").
"The Elves and the Shoemaker"
(Barefoot Books 1998)I have also illustrated "The Celtic Lunar Zodiac", an exploration of Celtic astrology, myth and lore by Helena Paterson, (Rider 1992, Llewellyn USA 1997).
My preferred subjects are fantasy and fairy-tale, painted in great detail, often in miniature, using acrylics, for the wonderful colours of that medium. . I also enjoy painting botanical subjects, and have illustrated a series of articles on species Hellebores for the Royal Horticultural Society journal "The New Plantsman".
In 1999, I was invited to hold a solo exhibition at the Botanic Gardens in Geneva -a return to my roots - which was highly successful. I have also recently exhibited paintings at the R.H.S. plant show in London in November 2001 where I was awarded a Silver Gilt Medal.
This year for the first time the R.H.S. has opened the BBC Gardener`s World Live Show to botanical illustrators. I was among those accepted, and shall be exhibiting a series of paintings of Ranunculaceae.( Botanical Art Gallery, National Exhibition Centre near Birmingham, 19th to 23rd June, 09.00 to 18.00 hours.)My paintings, many of which are done to commission, are now in numerous private and commercial collections throughout the world.
This website is my latest venture and it is intended not only to be a showcase for my work of the past few years, but will also, eventually, feature paintings which are directly for sale. In the meantime, I am happy to discuss commissions for similar works to the ones on show.
